Cheetah Factory Racing – Snowmobile Racks & Controls for Riders Who Live in the Backcountry

Cheetah Factory Racing (CFR) was started in 1999 by dedicated shredder Dave Basterrechea. Dave started snowboarding in 1987 and was instantly hooked. Years of competing and filming took him all over the world until he landed in Whistler, BC, Canada in 1997.

In 1997, Dave began using snowmobiles to access the backcountry for snowboarding missions. Snowmobiling quickly became the best way to reach the massive terrain surrounding Whistler. Back then, the only way to carry your snowboard was in your backpack. Dave realized that carrying his board on his back was getting in the way of his sledding—especially when tandeming with another person.

In the summer of 1999, Dave built a prototype snowboard rack for his snowmobile and began testing it that winter. The design worked. Soon he realized skiers needed a way to carry skis and poles as well, so in 2000 he built a dedicated ski rack. These early CFR snowboard and ski racks were the first purpose-built snowmobile racks for boards and skis available on the market.

In 2011, Dave turned his attention to snowmobile control. He wasn't happy with the stock handlebars on his sled—they bent easily and never felt quite right. After trying all the other options out there, he decided to design his own. This launched the CFR snowmobile control division. With feedback from team riders, a full line of signature bars and the flagship Boondocker bar were born.

Today, CFR products are tested in some of the most demanding conditions by snowmobilers, skiers and snowboarders: bumped-out icy trails in the morning, deep powder in the alpine, and the occasional “oops” rollover. With hundreds of hours of real-world abuse behind them, CFR racks, handlebars and controls are built to last.

CFR (Cheetah Factory Racing) FAQ

What makes CFR racks different from other snowmobile racks?

CFR racks were born directly from the needs of backcountry snowboarders and skiers. Dave Basterrechea designed the first CFR snowboard and ski racks so riders could carry their boards and skis securely on the sled instead of on their backs. The result is a rack system that is low-profile, solid and proven by years of real use in big mountain terrain.

Will CFR racks fit my snowmobile?

CFR offers rack systems and mounting solutions for a wide range of modern mountain sleds. In most cases, there is a CFR rack or bracket kit that will work with your tunnel and rail design. If you're unsure about fitment, contact West Coast Sledders with your sled make, model and year and we'll help confirm the best setup.

Can CFR racks carry both skis and snowboards?

Yes. CFR makes dedicated snowboard racks, ski racks and combo setups designed to carry skis, snowboards or both, depending on the model. This makes CFR ideal for mixed groups of sled-skiers and sled-boarders heading into the backcountry together.

What is special about CFR handlebars and the Boondocker bar?

CFR handlebars were created because stock bars would bend easily and never felt quite right for technical riding. With input from team riders, CFR designed handlebars with better sweep, rise and strength specifically for mountain snowmobiling. The Boondocker bar is a flagship design built for aggressive riding, sidehilling and tree lines.

Are CFR products durable enough for aggressive mountain riding?

Yes. All CFR products are tested in rough, real-world conditions—bumped-out icy trails, tight tree lines, deep snow and the occasional rollover. They are built to take a beating from sledders, skiers and snowboarders who are out in the mountains day after day.
